Our traditional “Four calling birds” have been updated and replaced with “Four Twitter birds” this year, as part of the 2012 collection of Daniel’s Heart 12 Days of Christmas Cards specially designed for LauraLynn, Ireland’s children’s hospice, which are created in memory of Daniel Farrell.

Little Daniel died aged only 15 months, suddenly and unexpectedly from a heart condition, Hypertropic Cardiomyopathy (HOCM) in 2007. His Mum and Dad really wanted to do something to help other children with serious illness and have been raising money for the children’s hospice ever since.

Daniel’s father John came up with the idea for the Christmas cards, and each year many of Ireland’s leading designers in the advertising and printing industry take on the challenge to recreate the classic 12 Days of Christmas idea in memory of his son. The cards reflect a unique take on each day, and range from classic Christmas designs to a modern representation of the theme including a unique design this year from Daniel’s big sister Sophie, aged 9.

John Farrell, Daniel’s father, said, “This is the sixth year that our friends in the industry have so generously given their time to remember Daniel and help LauraLynn. We wanted to do something special to remember our little boy whilst also helping children and families affected by serious illness. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the creation of the cards and everyone who continues to buy them every year, we’re living in hard times but year after year, people dig deep in their pockets to support this amazing hospice.”

All the money raised from Daniel’s Heart Christmas cards will go towards providing respite and support at the children’s hospice. Last year, more than €40,000 was raised from the sale of the cards, all going directly towards the upkeep of the hospice. The LauraLynn hospice requires €1.4 million to operate annually and 100% of the money raised from the sale of the 2012 collection of cards will go towards providing the services required.

The cards, in packs of 12, are available now from LauraLynn or online at www.lauralynn.ie, at a cost of €10 and all funds raised will go towards LauraLynn.
