Creating memories to last a lifetime…
Wednesday 11th March 2015 : For one week, Ireland’s top portrait photographers are offering you the opportunity to create memories to last a lifetime and raise much needed funds for Ireland’s Children’s Hospice, LauraLynn.
Organised by the Irish Professional Photographers Association (IPPA) and sponsored by Canon Ireland, National Portrait Week takes place nationwide from 28th March – 6 April 2015. Throughout the week, members of the public can donate €25 to LauraLynn and in return they will receive an individual mini portrait session and a desktop print (7x5in) from an IPPA photographer.
National Portrait Week was launched by TV3 presenter, Lucy Kennedy and her children. Speaking about her involvement in the campaign Lucy said, “I am so delighted to lend my support to National Portrait Week. It is a fantastic event which gives people the chance to get a gorgeous portrait photo of a loved one at the same time as donating to a really worthwhile charity, LauraLynn. I have photos of my kids all over the house and each one reminds me of wonderful times.”
Brendan Lyon, IPPA President commented, “Nationwide, over 60 IPPA photographers will be taking part in National Portrait Week this year. As all IPPA members are qualified, insured and professional, the week is a fantastic opportunity to capture a beautiful portrait of a family member whilst also supporting a very worthy charity. We are delighted that Ireland’s Children’s Hospice, LauraLynn, are our charity partner this year. All money raised will go directly to LauraLynn.”
LauraLynn provides care for children with life-limiting conditions and their families by providing home support, respite, crisis and end-of-life care. Tragically, there are over 3,800 children living in Ireland with life limiting conditions and 350 of these children pass away each year, most within their first year of life.
Jane Flynn, LauraLynn Head of Marketing, “We are thrilled to have been chosen as the charity partner for National Portrait Week 2015. With NO direct government funding for LauraLynn hospice services, we rely entirely on the generosity of fundraisers such as National Portrait Week to keep our doors open. We need to raise €2.9M annually to continue providing these services with additional funding needed to roll out our LauraLynn@HOME programme nationwide, providing nursing care for very sick children in the comfort of their own home.”
Jonothan Sultan, marketing manager for Canon Ireland said “At Canon, our philosophy is to live and work together for the common good so we are delighted to partner with the IPPA again on such a positive and powerful initiative. National Portrait Week not only raises vital funds for charity but also celebrates great portraiture and photography in Ireland. There’s no better way to demonstrate the power of an image than knowing that every smile in every photograph taken during National Portrait Week will make such a positive impact on someone else’s life.”
