Be a Hero for Children’s Hospice Week with TV3 and LauraLynn
TV3 announce support of LauraLynn for Children Hospice Week 2015
Children’s Hospice Week, 11th – 15th May 2015
TV3 has today announced its support for Children’s Hospice Week and LauraLynn, Ireland’s only Children’s Hospice. Children’s Hospice Week takes place from the 11th – 15th May 2015 and focuses on the incredible little heroes, the seriously ill children and their families, cared for by LauraLynn, Ireland’s only Children’s Hospice.
Alan Hughes (SuperMan), Elaine Crowley (SuperGirl), Glenda Gilson (BatGirl)
Throughout the week, TV3 will be bringing out the Superhero in all its flagship shows from Ireland AM through to Xposé, meeting some real-life heroes, from Leinster players to musicians to super children who fight the good fight every day. In additional support, Ireland AM presenter Alan Hughes (SuperMan), Midday presenter Elaine Crowley (SuperGirl), Xposé presenter Glenda Gilson (BatGirl), and The Seven O’Clock Show’s Martin King will each take part in an Abseil Challenge in Croke Park on Thursday 14th May to raise funds for LauraLynn.
From 11th – 15th May TV3 viewers will be asked to get behind the team they’d like to support. It doesn’t matter if you prefer Alan over Elaine or Martin King over the lovely Glenda, all of the support goes to LauraLynn and raises much needed funds for the children’s hospice.
There are 3,840 children living with a life-limiting condition in Ireland, and each year about 320 of these children die. LauraLynn is Ireland’s only Children’s Hospice providing paediatric palliative care in Ireland. Speaking ahead of the week, Sharon Morrow, LauraLynn Chief Executive said, “we care for children with life-limiting conditions, and their families, by providing high quality transitional care, home support, respite, crisis and end-of-life care. Our approach is holistic ensuring that the whole family is supported, allowing parents to be ‘Mums and Dads’ rather than full-time carers. With no direct Government funding for our Hospice Services, we need to raise in excess of €3 million every year. It is fundraising events such as Children’s Hospice Week that enable us to keep the doors of our hospice open as well as LauraLynn@HOME our pilot hands-on nursing care in the comfort of a child’s home .
Commenting on the joint initiative to raise funds for LauraLynn, David McRedmond, TV3 Group CEO, said: “TV3 is delighted to partner with LauraLynn and this fun initiative to raise much needed funds for the children’s hospice. It’s only fitting that it has a super hero theme given the superheroes that LauraLynn looks after every day. As Ireland’s most successful commercial TV station with over 3.4million viewers, we’re in a fantastic position to be able to help LauraLynn achieve their goals and look forward to supporting them in any way we can between now and 15th May.”
