Light Up LauraLynn 2018
Our annual tree-lighting ceremony, Light-Up LauraLynn, took place on Sunday, 25 November, with families and supporters joining together in a celebration of life and love. This special community event marks the start of the festive season at LauraLynn and gives families the opportunity to gather together to remember their loved ones & make precious memories.
Great friend of LauraLynn and RTE star Ray D’Arcy was a huge hit with the crowd and we were delighted to have his expert MC skills once again. The event kicked off with some fantastic festive tunes from A Glór and the Symantec Choir and children from Hollypark Girls National School Choir, followed by our very own LauraLynn Choir, whose performance got everybody in the Christmas spirit!
With the help of the fantastic team at Verve Live Agency, the grounds of LauraLynn were transformed into a magical winter wonderland and there were lots of fun, festive games and activities to entertain all ages. The Elves Workshop was a hub of activity as children stopped by to post their Santa letters and visitors had a chance to pick up LauraLynn Christmas cards and some great Christmas gifts at the LauraLynn merchandise stand. There was even a virtual reality Santa’s Sleigh ride and a ‘Magic Mirror’ to provide photo mementos from the day!
That’s not to mention the delicious refreshments that were on offer courtesy of Starbucks and The Lep Inn, as well as tasty warming treats from the The Crepe Box and Sweet Churros Dundrum.
As the lighting ceremony approached, a moment of reflection was led by our Chaplain Thomas Begley in remembrance of lost loved ones. A special Memory Tree was also erected at the event and this was filled with personalised decorative lights, each carrying the name of a precious loved one.
At 5:30pm the moment had finally arrived and LauraLynn’s Christmas lights were turned on by the O’Connor family…accompanied by Irish rugby union players James Ryan and James Tracy! A spectacular fireworks display quickly followed, lighting up the dark November sky.
Unable to join us on the day, Jane and Brendan Mckenna, Ray D’Arcy shared a beautiful Christmas message with the crowd on their behalf.
The event closed with a stunning performance from The Legato Singers, marking the end of another fantastic Light Up celebration.
Then it was home to warm up and reflect on the great memories from the day.
The LauraLynn team would like to express their sincerest thanks to everyone who made Light Up LauraLynn such a magical experience this year. We are incredibly grateful to all of those who donated their services and also their time, to create a memorable event for our families.
Thanks also to the many volunteers from our community, Verve, Microsoft, Pfizer and LauraLynn (without whom we couldn’t make the event happen) and to our wonderful supporters who turned out in large numbers to help us Light Up LauraLynn.
We hope you enjoy the festive season!< Back to News
