Light Up LauraLynn 2017

30 Nov

Our annual tree-lighting ceremony, Light-Up LauraLynn, took place on Sunday, 26 November, with families and supporters joining together in a celebration of life & love. This special community event marks the start of the festive season at LauraLynn and gives families the opportunity to gather together to remember their loved ones & make precious memories.

Great friend of LauraLynn & RTE star Ray D’Arcy was a huge hit with the crowd and we were delighted to have his expert MC skills once again. The event kicked off with some fantastic festive tunes from The SuperTones Children’s Choir & A Glor Gospel, followed by our very own LauraLynn Choir ‘Dee & The Snowflakes’, whose performance got everybody in the Christmas spirit!

The big surprise of the evening was a performance from none other than Hozier and we were honoured to have him as our very special guest. Hozier performed his hit ‘Take me to the Church’ for the excited crowd, dressed in a Christmas jumper specially designed for him in LauraLynn.

He was then joined on stage by Irish band Ham Sandwich, as they treated the crowd to some well-known Christmas classics. Hozier also kindly took the time to meet and spend some time with the children & families of LauraLynn, who were thrilled to have this special opportunity.

With the help of the fantastic team at Verve Live Agency, the grounds of LauraLynn were transformed into a magical winter wonderland and there were lots of fun, festive games and activities to entertain all ages. The Elves Workshop was a hub of activity as children stopped by to post their Santa letters & visitors had a chance to pick up LauraLynn Christmas cards and some great Christmas gifts at the LauraLynn merchandise stand. There was even a ‘Magic Mirror’ to provide photo mementos from the day!

That’s not to mention the delicious refreshments that were on offer courtesy of Starbucks & The Lep Inn, as well as tasty warming treats from the The Crepe Box & Sweet Churros Dundrum.

As the lighting ceremony approached, a moment of reflection was led by our Chaplain Thomas Begley in remembrance of lost loved ones. A special Memory Tree was also erected at the event and this was filled with personalised stars, each carrying the name of a precious loved one.

At 5pm the moment had finally arrived and LauraLynn’s Christmas lights were turned on by the Kielt family…accompanied by a certain jolly man in a red suit! A spectacular fireworks display quickly followed, lighting up the dark November sky.

The event closed with a stunning performance from The Legato Singers, marking the end of another fantastic Light Up celebration.

Then it was home to warm up & reflect on the great memories from the day.

The LauraLynn team would like to express their sincerest thanks to everyone who made Light Up LauraLynn such a magical experience this year.  We are incredibly grateful to all of those who donated their services and also their time, to create a memorable event for our families.

Thanks also to the many volunteers (without whom we couldn’t make the event happen) and to our wonderful supporters who turned out in large numbers to help us Light Up LauraLynn.

We hope you enjoy the festive season!
