Special Thanks to Jane and Brendan McKenna
The Board and staff of LauraLynn would like to express our deep gratitude to Jane and Brendan McKenna who today announced they would be stepping back from their public role with LauraLynn. They were the inspiration and the driving force behind the establishment of LauraLynn, Ireland’s Children’s Hospice.
You can read Jane and Brendan’s full statement here.
In all our lives, we can recognise moments when we wished we could do something differently or better; we have all had a vision for change. Very few of us succeed in making that change happen. Jane and Brendan, however, in the midst of the most difficult circumstances imaginable, did. The tragic loss of their two daughters, Lynn and Laura, was borne not only with dignity, but with a radical and selfless vision to transform the way children with life limiting conditions live, and die.
They are among the true pioneers of the children’s palliative care movement in this country. Their legacy is not only the hospice, which bears their daughter’s names, but the opportunity to provide choice, changing the way we provide palliative care to children and families at the most difficult of times.
We have a wonderfully dedicated team here at LauraLynn who are committed to the development of a service for every child and family that need hospice care. We are confident that Jane and Brendan will take pride as they watch their legacy grow into the future.
On behalf of all of us here at LauraLynn Ireland’s Children’s Hospice, and the many children and families needing hospice care, we say a humble and sincere thank you to Jane and Brendan, and wish them all the best for the future.
