The Ray D’Arcy Show HALF MILLION HALF MARATHON
Today FM listeners prove it’s a walk in the park to raise over HALF a MILLION
The Ray D’Arcy Show and their wonderful listeners have once again gone above and beyond, to raise valuable funds for an amazing cause; LauraLynn, Ireland’s Children’s Hospice.
On Good Friday, in Dublin’s Phoenix Park, with over 1,700 listeners by his side, Ray and gang walked, jogged and ran the 21km course and collectively raised over HALF A MILLION EURO for an exciting new project LauraLynn@Home. The programme aims to deliver respite, palliative and end-of-life care support in the family home.
Ray was joined by team members Mairead Farrell, Siobhan Hogan and show Producer and wife Jenny Kelly for her first ever half marathon! A host of celebrities including Bressie, Roz Purcell and Karl Henry were also on hand to support the cause and lend their legs for LauraLynn.
Following weeks of training, preparing and fundraising, the idea finally became a reality and what a morning it was. The sun shone brightly as this Good Friday became GREAT.
Ray was delighted with the turn out, “This was a dream of mine, but even I doubted we could reach this target. I’m blown away by the generosity of everyone involved, from those who donated their time in the organisation of the event to the tens of thousands who donated, but most importantly the 1,700 people who fundraised and turned up today to run or walk a half marathon for such a worthy cause.”
Jane McKenna said – “we are so humbled and completely overwhelmed by the amazing support. The Ray D’Arcy Show has inspired so many to join together to raise half million for LauraLynn- this money will enable us to bring precious hospice care into the comfort of a child’s home. Personally, it’s going be a poignant day for me as it’s Lynn’s anniversary, but its such a nice way to share the day, surrounded by friends and wonderfully kind and caring people. I know the girls will be smiling down on us all today. On behalf of all the families we give our heartfelt thanks.”
Thanks to the very generous people at Volkswagen Ireland, every cent of the €500,000 will be going direct to LauraLynn Ireland’s Children’s Hospice.
