FAQ- Pledge your Support
LauraLynn is asking general election candidates to pledge their support for the inclusion of two key commitments in the next programme for government. These are:
- To provide a sustainable level of funding for LauraLynn.
- To develop, implement and resource a new national policy on Palliative Care for Children with Life-Limiting Conditions.
LauraLynn will be regularly updating the list of candidates who have pledged their support. Come back soon to see if your local candidate has pledged.
While LauraLynn children’s hospice gratefully receives some statutory funding, it must fundraise 69c of every euro it spends on hospice care. This places an untenable fundraising burden on the organisation and contrasts with how adult hospices are almost all fully state funded.
As Ireland’s only children’s hospice, LauraLynn needs the government to provide sustainable funding to ensure that all children with palliative care needs and their families have equitable access to care and support services into the future.
The policy which forms the backbone of the state’s work on children’s palliative care was published in 2009 and is based on a needs assessment conducted in 2005. Ireland has changed a lot since then, and there have been developments in the field of children’s palliative care. A new policy is needed to take account of these changes.
