FAQS

The challenge is to swim 5 kilometres throughout the month of July while fundraising for LauraLynn, Ireland’s only Children’s Hospice.

No, the goal is to swim 5 kilometres throughout the whole month of July, which is an average of 167 metres a day. It is up to you how many metres you swim each day, and what suits your lifestyle. You can choose to swim every day or do longer swims on certain days - it’s up to you.

That’s easy! You can use the personal tracker in your fundraising pack or download a digital one here, just write down how many metres you swim on a given day. You can use an App, such as Strava, to track your swim distance in the sea or pool. Or if you know the length of the pool, calculate the metres by the number of lengths you complete. Don’t forget to post in the Facebook Group too and let us know how you’re doing!

Yes! You can wear togs, wetsuit, costume... whatever you wish!

Of course. Setting a goal of 5K and then exceeding that goal would be fantastic!

We suggest starting on 1st July and continuing throughout the month but if the timing doesn’t suit you then feel free to pick a time that does.

You can register for your pack here: https://givp.nl/erf/q0DDIfdS

A free LauraLynn silicone swimming hat and an information leaflet which will include a tracker for you to note your kilometres!

You should receive your fundraising pack before the start of the challenge. Packs will be sent in large batches from the middle of August.

Facebook Fundraisers are the easiest way for you to fundraise. It makes fundraising from home simple! The funds raised are lodged automatically into our bank account so you don’t have to do anything. And there are no fees!

If someone not on Facebook wants to donate, they should still be able to do so. Share the direct link of your fundraiser with them and they can enter their details. Alternatively, there are two other options for them to support your fundraiser:

  1. They can give you the cash or transfer you the funds (via Revolut, PayPalMe, Online Banking etc) and you can add the donation to your fundraiser yourself.
  2. They can donate directly to LauraLynn via www.lauralynn.ie/donate If they do this, please ask them to select from the ‘What inspired your donation’ drop-down “5km in September” and type in the message box your name so funds can be allocated to your swim challenge correctly.

Unfortunately we can’t issue refunds through Facebook but people can request a refund themselves from Facebook by following the below steps:
