Two-year-old Heidi Feighery from Dublin, alongside her parents Theresa and Warren, and sisters Chloe, Ella, and Ruby, took part in launching Palliative Care Week 2024. Supported by Taoiseach Simon Harris, the important week aims to raise awareness of palliative care services. Heidi was first referred to LauraLynn, Ireland’s Children’s Hospice, in May 2022.
Heidi has participated in several special LauraLynn initiatives, including "LauraLynn at The Abbey" in February 2024. In this unique production, six LauraLynn children, including Heidi, took to the stage at the prestigious Abbey Theatre in collaboration with the National Gallery of Ireland.
The Feighery family benefits from LauraLynn care and support, which includes short stays at LauraLynn House, symptom management, music therapy, and community-based care.
Kerry McLaverty, CEO of LauraLynn, said, "As Ireland’s only children’s hospice, LauraLynn is proud to once again support Palliative Care Week 2024. This week raises vital awareness of palliative care within the wider community. At LauraLynn, we remain dedicated to ensuring that families like Heidi’s receive the essential care and support they need at every stage of their journey."
Running from September 8th to 14th, Palliative Care Week 2024 is organised by the All Ireland Institute of Hospice and Palliative Care (AIIHPC) to increase public understanding of palliative care. This year’s theme, ‘You, Me and Palliative Care,’ emphasises the importance of these services in improving the quality of life for those with life-limiting conditions, their families, and caregivers.
LauraLynn would like to extend a big thank you to Heidi and her family for taking part in the Palliative Care Week launch.
During Palliative Care Week LauraLynn also launched a new LauraLynn Graduate Programme and Bereavement Resource.
