We are delighted to announce that Karen O'Connor, one of our dedicated volunteers, has won the prestigious Christine Buckley Volunteer of the Year Award 2024 at the National Volunteer of the Year Awards. Karen was nominated in the Children and Youth Services category and has now been recognized as Ireland's Volunteer of the Year.

Karen has been an invaluable part of LauraLynn since 2016, providing essential administrative support to our Fundraising Department. Her meticulous attention to detail and genuine care for our donors have been instrumental in helping LauraLynn achieve its fundraising goals. Karen's expertise in data analysis and organisation skills have led to a remarkable increase in donations.

Behind the scenes, Karen is always preparing donor packs and ensuring that our campaigns run smoothly. She follows up with donors to express our gratitude and highlight the impact of their contributions. Additionally, Karen supervises Transition Year student volunteers, fostering a love for volunteering in young people and ensuring they have a meaningful experience.

Karen's commitment extends beyond administrative tasks. She actively participates in special LauraLynn activities throughout the year, from dressing up for our festive Christmas events to engaging in arts and crafts with children during Family Fun Days. Karen also reads to children in the hospice during her shifts, bringing comfort and joy to those in our care.

Emma McLoughlin, Volunteer Coordinator says: "We are incredibly proud of Karen and her well-deserved recognition as the Christine Buckley Volunteer of the Year. Karen's dedication, compassion, and tireless efforts have made a significant impact on LauraLynn and the families we support. Her commitment to excellence and her ability to inspire others truly embody the spirit of volunteerism. We are so grateful to have her as part of our team."

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Karen. Karen's achievement is a shining example of the many ways volunteers support the various departments, activities and events at LauraLynn. This invaluable support has an incredible impact on the lives of the children and families we support.
