Covid-19: LauraLynn, Ireland’s Children’s Hospice

Published: 24 Mar 2020

At LauraLynn we provide care and support to some of the most vulnerable people in our society.

At LauraLynn we provide care and support to some of the most vulnerable people in our society, children with life-limiting conditions, children and young adults with disabilities and their families. As we have learned, Covid-19 poses a greater risk to the most vulnerable in our society and so we have had to take unprecedented measures to ensure our service users keep and remain safe during this current situation.

We have listened to our families and service users and based on their feedback and adhering to guidelines from government and the HSE we have made the decision to postpone all planned short family breaks and respite at our Hospice. LauraLynn is and will remain open for End of Life and Crisis Care. We are extremely proud of our Care Team who are working around the clock to make sure our families have continued support during these challenging times. We are using technology to find new ways to allow us to stay in regular contact with the children and families that we care for from right across the country. We remain on hand to support and help our families in every way we can.

Unfortunately, the fall out of the current crisis is that we, like many charities, have had to cancel or defer major fundraising events. Our annual Heroes Ball has been postponed and the majority of our community based fundraising is cancelled or on hold. As a result, this will have a serious impact on our ability to generate income and provide vital services to those we care for. LauraLynn receives no dedicated government funding and must raise 4.6 million this year alone to cover operational costs.

You, the Irish public help us do this every year, we are so grateful to all of you who have fundraised, donated or provided your services to us here in LauraLynn. To all of you who planned fundraising events that have now had to be cancelled, we understand how disappointing this is, but we look forward to helping you run these fantastic events when this crisis is over.

Recent weeks have shown the strength and generosity of the nation, pulling together in tough times and supporting all of those doing incredible work at the coalface of this crisis and we know that you will continue to support us when and where possible, for this, thank you. To help us continue to support children with life-limiting conditions and their families during these tough times please make a donation at www.lauralynn.ie/donate  or to chat about other ways to help, please contact our Fundraising Team who will be delighted to help at fundraising@lauralynn.ie.

Take care & stay safe.
