Palliative Care Week reaches a milestone of 10 years this Autumn and takes place from the 10th to the 16th of September 2023.
The campaign which is run by the All-Ireland Institute of Hospice and Palliative Care (AIIHPC) aims to educate people across the island of Ireland about the positive impact that palliative care can have on quality of life.
This year’s theme is ‘Palliative Care: Living for Today, Planning for Tomorrow.’ The theme reflects the commitment of AIIHPC and its member organisations to improving the quality of life of people with life-limiting conditions and their families.
As Ireland’s only Children's Hospice, LauraLynn wants to break the misconception surrounding children’s palliative care and show that it is about so much more than just medical care. LauraLynn is about living, it’s full of colour, laughter, and joy and it’s a place where families can create memories to last a lifetime.
Emily McSweeney and her family from Cork have been availing of LauraLynn care and supports for the last three years. The family shared their story to raise awareness for palliative care. Amy, Emily’s Mum explains how LauraLynn, and children’s palliative care help their family. Amy also discusses the support provided to them by the LauraLynn in the Community Team.
