Direct Care

At the core of what we do, is our ability to offer direct care and support to children and their families in recognition that the impact of caring for a child with a life-limiting condition is far reaching.

Direct Care most frequently occurs in the form of planned respite or specialist short break stays in LauraLynn House.

In LauraLynn House, parents and siblings are encouraged to stay as a family, and often breaks will be planned and purposeful in nature, focusing on aspects such as symptom management, enabling the entire family to avail of family support services, or simply for the family to spend some time together. Alternatively a child may stay on their own, giving families time for a break, safe in the knowledge their child is being cared for by our care team.

LauraLynn House will always try and support families in an emergency/crisis, so please contact us if you feel you may need some additional help in caring for your child and we will see how we can best help.

Our Care Team will always try and support a family in whatever way is best, and if possible, will support a child and family when in hospital – we can help with discharge planning or simply being able to sit with the child to allow parents to take a break from the ward.

Care and support is provided by a team of experienced nurses and health care assistants, alongside our Consultant Paediatrician & GPs, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Clinical Nurse Managers, Family Support Team as well as our Education and Training Team.

LauraLynn at Home

Our LauraLynn at Home nursing team can offer families that live within a designated area from LauraLynn House, the option of direct care in the home to assist with the ongoing complex care needs of their child. Home visits are generally arranged a week in advance and may be one off, and for a period of 3-4 hours, or may be offered as a series of visits over a period of short weeks.

For additional information on how our LauraLynn at Home team support families, please email home@lauralynn.ie or phone 01-289 3151 and ask to speak to the LauraLynn at Home Team Leader.
